Cornerstone vs ezyVet

Both are IDEXX, so the usual ecosystem argument cancels out. What remains is deployment, usability and cost.

Jan Pieterse

The short version

Both sit inside IDEXX, so the equipment argument mostly cancels. What is left is how each is delivered and how each feels to use.

An unusual comparison, because both products are IDEXX. That removes the argument that normally dominates: whether you can keep tight integration with in-house lab and imaging. With that largely off the table, what remains is deployment, usability and cost.

The honest read

Reviewers describe Cornerstone as difficult to learn with an interface many do not enjoy, and report both software and support as expensive. ezyVet reviewers report a system they largely enjoy using, provided someone invests the configuration time.

If usability is what is driving the question, the reported gap between these two is real. If working through an internet outage matters to you, Cornerstone keeps that and ezyVet does not.

The caveat about switching

Shared corporate ownership does not mean shared data structures. Assume a full migration with everything that implies, not a simple transfer. Ask specifically for a test migration of your real database.

What actually moves

The part practices underestimate is the data, not the software. Structured records (clients, patients, appointments, invoices, reminders) transfer well. Clinical notes usually transfer but can arrive flattened, with SOAP structure collapsed into plain text. Attachments are the most variable: files rarely vanish, but they can arrive without the link to the right patient.

Ask any vendor for a test migration against a copy of your real database before you sign. What comes back tells you more than every demo combined. We have written the full version of this in what actually transfers when you change practice software.
